The Thistle, the UK’s first safe drug consumption facility, opened its doors on 13 January 2025, with Pinpoint’s award-winning P2 Staff Attack System installed.

Located in Glasgow, The Thistle forms part of the Hunter Street Health Centre, which has used the Pinpoint System since 2003. The new site will operate as a clean space for people to use drugs under clinical supervision and access a wide range of treatment and support.

Pinpoint’s P2 Staff Alarm System has been installed throughout the facility to minimise risk to staff and ensure the swift delivery of assistance when it is needed most. Given the nature of the facility, service users may display unpredictable and volatile behaviour and medical support may be required in high-risk incidents.

Staff members at the Thistle will be allocated a personal alarm, or P2 PIT, at the start of each shift, which can be activated with the simple press of a button. Once activated, the P2 PIT communicates with receivers located throughout the building, which in turn notifies display devices of the exact location and severity of the alarm call and allows colleagues to respond swiftly.

With the presence of state-of-the-art alarm systems, hostile situations can be prevented, leaving staff at The Thistle confident in their safety and reassured that they can always access help when needed.
