About Pinpoint

Our Story

Pinpoint was founded with a singular mission: to protect those who care for others. Since 1992, we have provided industry-leading safety technology designed to mitigate workplace violence and ensure an immediate response during critical incidents.

Our Journey

1980s

A problem that needed solving

In the late 1980s, Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield, England faced a growing challenge: increasing incidents of workplace violence were affecting staff safety, morale, and retention. Existing alarm technology was unreliable, so the hospital’s engineering team was tasked with finding a better solution.

Working alongside an electronics company in Scotland, the team developed a pioneering personal alarm system using infrared technology — creating a way for healthcare workers to quickly call for help while accurately identifying the location of an incident.

1992

Pinpoint is established

Following the success of the system at Pinderfields Hospital, the technology was patented by Wakefield Health Authority and later assigned to Pinpoint.

Pinpoint Limited was founded in Scotland in 1992 by John Waring, with a vision to bring this innovative staff safety solution to healthcare organisations worldwide.

The company name reflected the technology’s unique ability to pinpoint the exact location of a distress call.

1992

First customer and UK growth

Pinpoint secured its first customer at Daleham House in Swiss Cottage, UK. The technology was quickly recognised as a reliable solution for protecting healthcare workers and became the leading workplace violence prevention system in the UK.

Within less than a decade, Pinpoint achieved an 80% share of the UK market.

2008

Expanding across North America

With a growing reputation in the UK, John Waring looked to bring Pinpoint’s technology to international markets.

In 2008, Pinpoint entered North America and secured its first US customer, Mayo Clinic in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, followed shortly after by St Luke’s Hospital.

Within a few years, healthcare systems across the United States began adopting Pinpoint to protect their teams.

2017

A new generation of leadership

In December 2017, founder John Waring passed away and leadership of Pinpoint transitioned to his son, Daniel Waring.

Continuing his father’s vision, Daniel focused on driving product innovation, strengthening customer support, and expanding Pinpoint’s mission of protecting people working in high-risk environments around the world.

2018

Strengthening our global presence

Pinpoint established its US presence with an office in New York and partnered with Flexible Systems on Long Island, New York, supporting the company’s continued expansion across North America.

2025
